Flip the Switch – Fast fashion to slow fashion

Another trend, another closet makeover. It is almost like an instinct, you see something new and fresh and suddenly your cart is full. Fast Fashion makes it so easy to like, select, add and buy, but what happens to the old clothes you discard to make space for the new ones? Or what happens to the factories that make these new clothes each second?

These factories become hubs of mass production where quantity is prioritised over sustainability and safety. With production of each garment enormous amounts of energy, toxic dyes are discarded in the river, depleting the scarce resources. The cycle of trendy consumption does not just end here, it continues to and from our closets, reflecting the carbon currency spent on fast fashion.

The problem lies in every closet makeover, when we buy those fresh pieces to  catch up with  ongoing trends, we don’t just end up causing a dent in the wallet but also one in the environment. It leads to  massive piles of clothes which keep stacking up in  landfills — contributing to  already existing pollution and inducing other environmental harms. And all this for the sake of  “going with the trend.”

Now it’s time to flip the switch – flip, switch and repeat. Next time you’re about to hit the checkout, pause and think of the clothes already in your closet which you haven’t touched. What if instead of making another purchase you were to recycle your old clothes? It is not just about saving money but  also about saving space, reducing waste and giving your clothes a makeover that would blend perfectly with the ongoing trends. It is about redefining style– not by buying new but rather by making new from what you already own.

Slow fashion is what helps you build a closet with timeless looks and not just overflowing trends. You invest in durable fabrics which  sets you apart in the never ending race of fleeting trends.  When you embrace this lifestyle  you create a consumption consciousness which is not just about the present but also sustains the future.

And the best part, being sustainable and following slow fashion lets you be creative.Instead of buying trendy clothes, you create  a sense of style which is uniquely and meaningfully yours.

So, rethink your buying decisions, recycle  your old clothes, and help the planet  reclaim its glory — one fashion choice at a time. The possibilities are endless, all you’ve got to do is flip the switch from fast fashion to slow.
